You know You keep deleting my comments when I am only Stating the Truth. Your long over due to Post Parts 4-6 on BT and Now are making not only Everyone who is a Fan but other Translators wait on you As Well Just because you don't have the Time. It does not take 24hrs or even 2hrs or Less to Transfer over your Files to upload on BT. If you did not want the Responsibility of doing the EX side Story you should have never Started it. Don't make us wait any long and just do your Job as Translator or Pass what you have to JeruTz who has been and still is Waiting on you to Post so They can do it themselfs.

You seem to have no clue how translation works. Being a fan translator is not a job. We don't get paid for what we do. We have lives outside of translating which in most cases take precedence.

I don't like how you have assumed I am somehow waiting for Ariel to finish before I can do anything. It took me months to finish the first 3 chapters. And yes, I also took time off.

For that matter, the reason Ariel and myself choose a side story was due to the low priority so we could go at our own pace. Ariel accepted the position of translating half a side Story that has little beating on the main story. Would you rather no one was working on it.

Firstly I am fully aware how Translations work and Ariel is Taking 4ever to upload there finished work to Baka-tsuki that is Already Completed. That's your fault it's not a Paying Job to be a Fan Translator.

Secondly if you and Ariel started working on your own parts at the same time and Finished around the same Pace then you posted yours on BT first then why can't Ariel do the same since Chapters 4-6 are Completed and have been for 2 months with the Same Message in the News & Update Homepage screen that reads will Update to BT when all TL and Fixes are Done. TLing is done what about the Status on Fixes if they are even progressing on the Work or have they given up since no further proven work has been done on the EX Side Story since 2 months ago. I would not Bitch so much if Ariel would leave an monthly update on where there at on Fixing Mistakes in Ex. And given a Update message on any blog don't take much effort at all less then a minute really not hard to do.

Lastly I and thousand like me would read it as is but like Ariel has stated there are fixes to be made but no progress and I'm not about to read a Story that is Incorrect and trying to wait for the pdf to be made but a becoming rather pissed it is taking this long. All I want is for you as Translators to do want you agreed to do and Just hurry up and Finish it and not take another 6 months or Longer. Hell Zxzxzx just got back from Vacation 2 weeks ago Started Translating V21 and is 99% done with just the Afterwards left to do. If it take him 2 weeks to complete a whole novel then why is it taking 6+ months to do 3 Short Chapters.

"Firstly I am fully aware how Translations work and Ariel is Taking 4ever to upload there finished work to Baka-tsuki that is Already Completed."

Wrong. Ariel has only completed the rough drafts. The finished product isn't done yet.

"That's your fault it's not a Paying Job to be a Fan Translator."

Wrong. I can't sell a translation without the original author's consent. It's illegal.

"Secondly if you and Ariel started working on your own parts at the same time and Finished around the same Pace then you posted yours on BT first then why can't Ariel do the same since Chapters 4-6 are Completed and have been for 2 months"

I started before Ariel. When I started the later chapters hadn't even been published. Others had been but the raws were not yet available. I started back in December of last year (possibly earlier). I didn't finish chapter 3 until May. In contrast, chapter 6 didn't even come out until it was almost February and chapter 5 was only just before the new year. 6 months during a period when I was relatively free. Ariel has a college thesis. I didn't.

"Hell Zxzxzx just got back from Vacation 2 weeks ago Started Translating V21 and is 99% done with just the Afterwards left to do. If it take him 2 weeks to complete a whole novel then why is it taking 6+ months to do 3 Short Chapters."

One, Zxzxzx is semi-fluent in Chinese and uses that to produce quick translations. Ariel is still learning Japanese and I was never formally taught but merely picked it up on my own time. Our paces are completely different. Deal with it. Second, those 3 short chapters aren't short at all. I'm working on a full size novel right now that's over 200 pages. The first 3 chapters of EX might only be 29 pages at first glance, but due to formatting and text size there's at least 4 times as much text per page. That means those 6 chapters are the length of a full volume put together.

"All I want is for you as Translators to do want you agreed to do and Just hurry up and Finish it and not take another 6 months or Longer."

Then stop harassing us. You'll still be alive in 6 months in likelihood anyways. You know how many series I've had to wait months to see a single volume translated? Did I ever complain? No because I knew I had no right to. And if a translator went quiet, I was concerned for the translator. If they had to delay a project for some reason, I understood. And if they chose to let someone else finish because they had too much going on, I don't hold that against them.

You should count your lucky stars that zxzxzx is as good as he is. It'll get done. So unless you're on your deathbed and this is your dying wish, stop complaining.

Another thing, zxzxzx didn't START Volume 21 2 weeks ago. He published the first installment back in March. It took him 5 months to finish it.

Alright, mjbartlett. I admit I'm slow. Here's my answer from Reddit:

"For me, it's like a dual-edged Durandal (pun intended): On one hand, I have things to do in Real Life. On the other hand, these lads have the right to voice their opinion. I'll be honest to you, it feels like I am some writer getting pushed by my editor for the deadline.

Meanwhile, the guys who demands quicker release are often just... overreacting, in a less derogatory term. Sure, people wanted to read them faster, but remember, we are mostly fan translators so our pace is not neatly arranged, not some professionals paid by a publishing house or those who demands to be paid via Patreon or something."

Second, I don't consider being a translator as a job. As Saitama puts it, IT'S A HOBBY. So it's not a priority over my actual job.

Now, if you are up, would you mind if I ask you for a challenge, but with rules?

The challenge is simple: I want you to translate a page of EX from the raw that I uploaded. Here is the Raw: https://mega.nz/#!lE8lWYgQ!Oh-0pKe_F_4kNv9pPrMDJPbBciund92cxFfNVzWZLKQ

The rules are simple. First, You cannot use the following tools/Sites:

- KanjiTomo
- Jisho.org
- WWWJDIC by Jim Breen
- Any form of help, free or paid, from other human TLs (As if professional TLs want to help anyway)

Other than that, you can use anything you have at your disposal.

Second, you have only limited time to translate, only 12 hours, rest and your real life thingamajigs included. The clock starts as soon as you reply this comment.

The translated text must be as accurately as possible. You can do it literally, add some Woolseyism, whatever, as long as it is faithful to the source material.

However, YOU MAY ONLY ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE UP TO IT. . If you don't then you don't have to. Trust me, you will feel the pain that is "Translator's Block".

Meanwhile, if you can do it, then I'll ask someone for faster TL, and you can pull out the booze and sing "Kumbaya"

Cheers.

PS. For the others, you lads cannot take this challenge. You also cannot help mjbartlett in anyway. Doing so will get you an infinite spam in form of Mil-Tan images.

This is the best haha. I always knew this was a hobby for the translators. So its refreshing to see someone that talks down to you guys get challenged.

PS keep up the good work. Looking forward to more and am glad there are at least people willing to spare time to translate light novels.

Wow, just wow. This clown is an absolute asshat. You don't demand free stuff and expect it to come faster. I know I am late and y'all finished already but damn.

Unknown said...

mjbartlett you are a complete fuck ass loser. I wish there was a way to block you from all fan sites hosting scanlations/translations. Be grateful they are giving up their valuable time at all for the benefit of COMPLETE STRANGERS!

Keep up the good work guys and thanks for your effort.

@Ariel

I have an honest inquiry regarding the established rules of your challenge, if you don't mind. While I certainly understand not allowing other human translators for help, I'm a bit confused about the banning of those tools.

Just as chemists are not expected to remember the entire periodic table, or computer scientists are not expected to remember every method in a java library, I don't think anyone tasked with translating should be expected to recognize every possible kanji. I, myself, had to use romajidesu.com recently to look up kanji I could neither recognize nor guess the meaning of from context clues.

I also don't think it makes the job much easier; you still have to keep in mind context, compounds, and idioms. And then once you've grasped the meaning you have to make sure the phrasing makes sense in English (or whatever the target language is). I quite often looked through an English thesaurus for inspiration in that regard.

Finally, you seemed to only be disdainful of those sites/tools in particular, not disallowing similar ones like romajidesu that I mentioned earlier, or the infamous google translate (which despite its reputation, isn't completely useless). Is there something about those sites/tools in particular that wasn't apparent to me at first glance? Or perhaps an unspoken rule in the fan-translation community that I'm not aware of?

I decided to try a love spell by Dr.isiramen after I found his details online and I started waiting to see the results.

In less than a day, he totally changed his attitude towards me and stopped the affair the very same day.
